The end of week four. It was a very short day (12 kilometers instead of the expected 21, thanks to some guidebook errors). We took lots of breaks and stopped to watch skydivers jump out of a plane over Barcelonne-du-Gers (an unremarkable suburb, not a cultural capital as the name might imply).

Below: A hazy sunrise in Lelin-Lapujolle (“put another dime in the juke box, baby!”)

Below: The bridge over the brown Adour River, decorated with EU member state flags. We stopped at a Carrefour supermarket (so much choice!) and had a lovely picnic near the bridge.

Below: In our dormitory at the Hôtel de la Paix in Aire-sur-l’Adour. We were the first pilgrims to arrive, so naturally we claimed the “tropical” corner!

Below: We went for beers with Robert that evening. ‘Twas lovely.

Below: Beers at the entrance to Aire-sur-l’Adour. You may notice that my pilgrim beard has started to show – I started the Camino with a shaved face (and nearly shaved head) and let my hair and beard grow the whole time.
