Hoping the weather cooperates

You’ve probably heard about the troubles the UK has been having with the weather recently – it snowed a lot last week, and because nobody in England possesses shovels or salt, and because cities haven’t heard of snowplows, most of the roads and sidewalks in Oxfordshire are still covered in six inches of slushy, slippery snow.

It would be charming (nothing is more picturesque than a Cotswold stone cottage or Oxford college in the snow!) except that we’re hoping to make it home for Christmas, and Heathrow is currently struggling to do anything. Looks like we should’ve planned to fly out of Gatwick, which has only cancelled a small number of flights since the storm.

I’ve been walking to work this week, cycling being virtually out of the question. It’s tiring, walking on uneven, slippery surfaces, and it makes me long for clear Nova Scotian sidewalks. On my walks, I’ve taken a few pictures of the “aftermath,” which I’m including in this post (see them all here).

ecoVeritas had a lovely Christmas lunch today at Door 74. It was a great way to celebrate both the end of the year and the hiring of our newest employee, who started on Monday.

Meanwhile, I’m counting down the days until we leave our jobs in Oxford and set out on the Camino. I was reminiscing about the St Cuthbert’s Way (see my recently captioned photos here) and thinking about how amazing those four days/60 miles were. Harder to imagine walking 600 miles in 60 days, but I look forward to being able to look at a map of Europe and remember walking across a sizable chunk of it.

Anyway, Merry Christmas, everybody! Whether we spend it in Oxford or Heathrow Airport or, most preferably, Canada, our thoughts are with you during the holidays.
