Groceries on the Lido

I’m just back from a shopping trip to the Lido Billa, which is where Alberto recommended I go for groceries (it’s arguably the most convenient from Sant’Elena). I procured a number of things that will tide me over through evenings I can’t or don’t want to eat at Pampo’s.

On the way there, my vaporetto almost got into an accident with another boat. We were on a collision course, and, just like a real bus driver would, the vaporetto driver leaned on the horn and slammed on the brakes. Well, vaporetti don’t have brakes, but he put it in full-reverse and the deceleration certainly was sudden.

The other boat, an empty tourist vessel, was being driven by a shirtless kid who looked to be about 17. For all I know, maybe he was joy-riding. Anyway, he seemed surprised to see us bearing down on him, so at any rate, he probably wasn’t paying attention and definitely shouldn’t have been driving a boat in the busy lagoon.

I have posted some photos in the gallery today. The link is here.
