Friday night in the Campo di Pampo

I am waiting for some photos to upload to the server on Pampo’s wifi connection, and am writing this blog post to pass the time. Day 2 in Venice was a nice one (and productive). I spent most of the day at the office, working on assignments for Venice-bound WPI students in the class of 2011.

In the evening, I had a Skype call with Fabio, who is currently in New Hampshire. I spoke with him and a number of scientists and others who will be helping/participating in an NSF grant we’ll be writing very soon. Amazing how easy it is to beam oneself across oceans and continents to communicate as if you’re there in the room.

I tried the Settemari rowing club for dinner, but had no luck. So, I walked back to the apartment, deposited my things, and had a leisurely dinner at Pampo’s. First course was a seafood lasagna (delicious). Second was a salad mista, and third was a grilled chicken breast with a slice of lemon. Round it out with a bottle of spring water, a carafe of vino rosso and an espresso, and that’s what I call a meal!

It’s so quiet here – how different from the cities of the world with cars. In Venice, especially at night, one needs only wander away from the canals to find peace and quiet. At quarter past eleven, I can only here the occasional footstep of a passer-by. Although, at the rate these photo uploads are going, I think I’ll be listening to the ringing of the Marangona at midnight, too.

Okay, the photos are done. See them here.

One final comment: I’m not a big fan of the little creepy-crawly bugs that get all over me and my computer while I sit outside. I don’t know if they bite or not, although I noticed a few itchy spots on my legs last night, so I think they do. They’re more annoying than anything, though. Oh well. C’est la vie!
